Locked in the cellar… – …then father sank his dead daughter in the canal

Date:

After the death of a three-year-old child in Dinslaken in the Rhineland in Germany, the father is in custody for grievous bodily harm and deprivation of liberty resulting in death.

According to investigators, the 40-year-old allegedly locked the child in a cellar as punishment and then scuttled him in the Rhine-Herne Canal when he died. The Duisburg police and the Duisburg Public Prosecution Service announced this on Sunday.

Weighted and sunk in the canal
According to the statement, the man reported to the police in Dinslaken on Friday. He stated that his daughter had died and that he had buried her in the moat with weights. A homicide squad is currently investigating the background, interviewing witnesses and evaluating the evidence.

According to initial findings, the German allegedly locked his daughter in the basement of an apartment building for a few days – possibly as an educational measure. He allegedly provided her with food and drink and also checked on her again and again. But on October 1, he allegedly found the girl dead in the basement. On the same day, in the evening or at night, he is said to have sunk the body, weighed down with weights, in the canal near Oberhausen.

Choked on vomit
The autopsy showed that the child died from vomited chyme. The child had no injuries. According to the statement, the father has not provided any further comment to investigators.
