IDF soldier in conversation – “We are chasing the terrorists to the end of the world”

Date:

On Saturday, Israel’s ex-military spokesman Arye Shalicar analyzed the background of the central motive of the waves of rocket attacks on Israel for the “Krone”. Just 24 hours later after the Hezbollah attack, Shalicar landed in Tel Aviv on Sunday. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had drafted him as a seasoned professional given the frightening situation. Now the writer, who is successful in his private life, wears a uniform again to report on the current situation from the war zone.

“Kron”: As a first analysis, we ask for a brief description of the dire hostage situation. How many prisoners can we take?
Arye Shalicar: We know that dozens of people have been kidnapped. But I cannot and do not want to give an exact number. We do not want to contribute to any Palestinian terrorist group being able to use these figures for their insidious propaganda campaign. (According to reports, prisoners should be chained in front of military posts as a protective shield.)

Is it true that there are also a number of children, girls and women among the prisoners?
Yes, that’s true, but I can’t give you any numbers either. According to current photos, videos and other reliable information, little girls and boys, young women and mothers are actually in the power of the hostage takers. If someone kidnapped my children, I would chase the kidnapper(s) to the ends of the earth!

Were there retaliatory attacks after Hezbollah’s attacks from Lebanon on Israel?
Yes, they already existed to calm the situation there.

What about the secret rocket building workshops in Lebanon?
Every third house in Lebanon is effectively a terrorist cell. They have many houses there that are used twice. On the one hand, people live there, but on the other, connected corridors also serve as hidden weapons depots, fuel depots and even secret missile launch pads in normal residential buildings. And of course, homemade rockets are assembled in secret laboratories and workshops and equipped with deadly explosive power.

The United Nations UNIFIL mission with around 11,800 soldiers from 40 countries – including around 180 Austrians – is currently in Lebanon, on the Israeli border. How do you assess their role or threat in the current situation?
At this time, I have noticed through continued reports that some UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) soldiers have already evacuated their posts. But that is exactly the wrong signal! Because that is exactly where they are needed right now. The United Nations Command must ensure that peace remains in the border area.

Thank you, take care and good luck as a soldier!
