While excessive effort puts many caregivers out of work, there is hardly any shortage of staff in the Assista residential village of Altenhof in Upper Austria. The “Krone” has looked around and found employees for whom nursing is the dream job, for whom they will even accept moving and changing jobs.
Change machine for people: “One of our civil servants, a trained locksmith, saw how much fun it is to work with people. He then switched from locksmith to the social sector,” says Monika Siegele. The 53-year-old has worked as a registered nurse at the social organization Assista since 2008. “When I started here, I said: I can imagine living here until I retire. I won’t change anymore.”
