Abbas condemns the killing of civilians by Israel and Hamas, and calls for aid for Gaza

Palestine’s president has called for the opening of humanitarian corridors in the Gaza Strip, which is under blockade and siege by Israel.

The Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbascondemned “the murder of civilians by both sides,” referring to Israel and Hamas, and called for the opening of humanitarian corridors in the Gaza Stripblockaded and besieged by constant Israeli bombardments.

Abbas met with the King of Jordan, Abdullah IIin Amman, where both will meet tomorrow with the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinkenwho reaffirmed his support for Israel today in Tel Aviv.

The Palestinian president has rejected “practices related to the killing or abuse of civilians on both sides” and called for “the release of civilians, prisoners and detainees” and an end to “settler terrorism” in the occupied West Bank for Israel .

Likewise, he has demanded the “immediate end of Israel’s total aggression” and “the provision of medical, emergency and humanitarian aid,” as well as the supply of water, electricity and fuel to the people of the Gaza Strip.

Abbas has also called for “the urgent opening of humanitarian corridors in the Gaza Strip” with Egypt.

Given the escalation of the conflict, Abbas appealed for the need to “take political action to end the occupation and achieve peace.”

Humanitarian help

Sources from the Egyptian Red Crescent have confirmed the dispatch of a convoy humanitarian aid at the Rafah border crossing to receive critical cases requiring transfer. Jordan and Iraq have also announced they will send humanitarian aid through Egypt.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shukri, has stated that his country will keep the border crossing open to deliver humanitarian aid, food and medical supplies, but has not clarified whether it will be opened for the passage of people. Hamas opposes the permanent “relocation” of the population of Gaza across the border with Egypt.
