France’s president has advocated the two-state solution, an “indispensable” guarantee for peace.
Emmanuel MacronThe French president has declared that Israel “has the right to defend itself” against the “barbarism” of Hamas with “specific actions” as long as it “protects the civilian population.”
Macron has defended the two-state solution, an “indispensable” guarantee for achieving peace in the Middle East. In this sense, he made it clear that “the fight against terrorism cannot replace this goal.”
“France condemns in the strongest possible terms these heinous acts,” he stated, adding that the Palestinian cause should not be confused with the justification of terrorism.
He has also warned of the danger that the current situation could lead to a rise in “anti-Semitism” in France, and asked French people to “stand united” in defending “our values of freedom and secularism.”
The French government has banned demonstrations in support of the Palestinian people throughout its territory, claiming they pose a threat to public order.
Macron has indicated that 13 French people have been killed in the Hamas attacks, and another 17 are missing. “Since the attack in Nice in 2016, so many French people have never been killed by terrorists,” he added.
