A 25-year-old from Linz really wanted to rescue the stolen raspberry pastries. That didn’t work, and now there was a hefty penalty for meager loot.
Two and a half months in prison for every euro of loot! That didn’t work with God. For a raspberry pastry and a few sweets worth 8.22 euros, a 25-year-old in Linz went to prison for 20 months – without partial prison time.
Knife rammed the table
What happened? On July 25 this year, the defendant put the sweets, two smoothies and the raspberry pastries in his pocket in a supermarket on Linzer Landstrasse and wanted to smuggle the loot out of the store. However, the director caught him and confronted the crook, who already had several convictions to his name.
To at least “save” the raspberry cookies he had in his pocket, the suspect punched the branch manager, according to the complaint. The rescue operation failed, the manager arrested the thief and brought him to the office. There, the 25-year-old grabbed a knife, threatened to use it and rammed it into the office table.
The argument of the suspect, who also has a drug problem, that he only wanted to turn away to escape but did not want to hit anyone, was not heard. The guilty verdict was returned on a charge of theft, which carries a prison sentence of six months to five years. Due to the thief’s past, the minimum sentence was no longer a problem.
