After the devastating fire in a disco in North Macedonia, many seriously injured fire brigade victims are flown abroad and treated there – also to Austria. The first machine ended up in Graz on Monday. Other patients must be admitted to Vienna.
At least 59 dead and more than 150 injured – the fire brigade in a nightclub in northern Macedonian Kocani shocked far beyond the national borders. In the meantime, international help has also started, 51 injuries were brought abroad – also to Austria.
Six seriously injured – four young men and two young women between the ages of 16 and 24 have to be cared for in Vienna and Graz.
First machine landed in Graz
On Monday morning an emergency team started with a C-130 “Hercules” from the federal army from Linz Hörsching to North Macedonia. The seriously injured fire brigade victims are flown to Austria in three flights in special medical evacuation modules.
The first machine with two patients on board ended up in Graz on Monday afternoon. One of the patients was transported by the armed forces, another from the Red Cross from Styria to LKH Graz.
The help of Austria asked
The treatment of patients with severe burns is considered extremely complex, most hospitals in Southeast Europe are only equipped for a limited extent.
That is why the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Noord -Macedonia had also contacted the Austrian ambassador in Skopje and asked for help. “In these difficult times, the whole of Austria is close to the side of our friends in the north of Macedonia. I wish all injured a quick and complete recovery, “says ÖVP Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker.
