The EU is the largest donor in the Palestinian territories. But Europe has virtually no say in the region. On the contrary, anti-Semitic school textbooks full of calls for violence are also financed with money from Brussels. It is difficult to control where the money goes.
So-called martyrdom payments paid by the Palestinian authorities to the families of those killed in the violence against Israelis; special grants for Palestinians in Israeli prisons, even if the prisoners are behind bars for terrorist acts against Jewish targets; anti-Semitic and hateful textbooks in Palestinian classes – all this was denounced by the EU Parliament last July. The House of Representatives in Brussels called on the European Commission to scrutinize European payments to the Palestinians and investigate where exactly the money goes.
