Can you guess which are the locations with the highest percentage of establishments? A clue: it’s not the capitals.
Laguardia (Álava), Zierbena (Bizkaia) and Labastida (Álava) are the towns with the highest percentage of bars and restaurants in the Basque Country, according to what has been confirmed EITB data with Eustat data.
In concrete terms, Laguardia has an average of 200 branches per 10,000 inhabitants; Zierbena 155 and Labastida 118.
As for capitals, Bilbao and Donostia-San Sebastián are above the Basque Country average, which is 54 bars and restaurants per 10,000 inhabitants. For example, the capital of Biscay has 68 inhabitants, and the capital Gipuzkoa has 63 inhabitants.
On the contrary, Vitoria-Gasteiz is below average with 50.
Two towns without bars or restaurants
Looking at the bottom part of the table, two Basque municipalities stand out because they have no bars or restaurants.
Is about Elduijn (Gipuzkoa) and Arakaldo (Alava).
Of the cities that do have some establishment, the cities with the lowest share of bars and restaurants are in Gipuzkoa. They are Azkoitia (29), Legazpi (34), Oñati (38) and Errenteria (38).
