A prisoner in the Stein prison in Krems was sentenced to 18 years in prison for allegedly unsuccessfully inciting a fellow inmate to kill another prisoner at the beginning of this year. According to the court, a guilty verdict for attempted murder as an intended perpetrator is not legally binding. The jury trial ended shortly before midnight on Thursday.
The suspect was accused of offering a fellow inmate 20,000 euros in exchange for the murder. At least twice he urgently threatened to kill the chosen perpetrator – in case the deed was not carried out.
A fellow inmate filed a complaint
According to the Krems Regional Court, the attempt ultimately only survived because the fellow prisoner did not act as the suspect had planned, but filed a complaint. The suspect was also charged with aggravated coercion and dangerous threats during the jury trial.
