About 1,300 people arrived in the Cypriot port city of Larnaca on Friday aboard a cruise ship from Israel. The ship Crown Iris had left the northern Israeli port city of Haifa the evening before.
Hundreds of German citizens are said to be among the passengers, Cypriot broadcaster RIK reported. In addition, if passengers wish, they should be able to fly immediately from the nearby airport in the city of Larnaca to Germany and other countries.
Cyprus helps
The EU island republic of Cyprus had already on Tuesday made its airports and ports available as contact points to help people wanting to leave the region.
The Palestinian organization Hamas had earlier launched a large-scale terrorist attack against Israel on Saturday.
According to information from Cypriot radio, the Krooniris not only brings people from Israel to Cyprus, but would also bring back to Haifa about 150 Israelis who want to return to their homeland.
