The company of a 55-year-old forestry contractor was scheduled to carry out forestry work on a forest plot in Kötschach-Mauthen on Tuesday around 1:30 p.m. When his 52-year-old employee was felling a fir tree, his boss approached unnoticed from behind and stood next to his employee. “At that moment, the chainsaw blade kicked back and hit the entrepreneur in the lower leg area,” said a police officer.
The entrepreneur suffered serious injuries and, after receiving first aid, was taken in a private car to the Red Cross office in Kötschach-Mauthen, from where he was then flown by the rescue helicopter C7 to BKH Lienz.
