A 43-year-old farmer from Pöndorf wanted to clean the rotating feeding machine after finishing his work on Saturday when he was hit by a metering roller and fatally injured. His family found the 43-year-old; he leaves behind a wife and two sons. There is great consternation in the city.
The 43-year-old farmer was busy feeding the cows on his farm in Pöndorf on Saturday and apparently wanted to clean the feeding machine after the work was completed.
The machine is intended as a loader wagon in which the freshly mown grass falls directly in front of the animals’ feeding fence via a side discharge. The farmer wanted to clean the metering roller needed to transport the green clippings while the machine was running, but his arm was probably caught by the roller, pulled over the conveyor belt and thrown out the other side.
Coincidentally, the fire brigade was present at the scene of the accident
FF Haberpoint firefighters were on their way home from a large-scale training exercise when they happened to pass the property and were stopped by the victim’s children – two teenage boys – and shouted for help. “We immediately ran and took care of the woman, who was already with her husband. CPR was then started and the emergency doctor was called. One of the comrades is even a medic,” says Harald Furthner, commander of the FF Haberpoint.
The emergency doctor was quickly on the scene, but the injuries were too serious. The farmer died at the scene of the accident.
Stressful use
The firefighters are deeply shocked and want to meet again to discuss what happened. Because in addition to the terrible images, there is also the fact that almost everyone knew the victim personally. “He had the farm very well organized and only built a new barn about 10 years ago,” Furthner says.
The mayor of Pöndorf, Johann Zieher, was also affected the day after the accident: “We are shocked! He was an extremely capable man. A few years ago his sister lost her husband, who was only 50 years old.” Back at the farm – which is run as a full-time business – are the deceased’s wife, the couple’s two sons and the accident victim’s elderly mother.
After the accident, they were cared for by a crisis intervention team. “Our condolences go out to you,” Mayor Johann Zieher emphasizes.
