After a lightning strike, a plane with 178 people on board made an unscheduled landing in Munich on its way from Hamburg to the Turkish holiday metropolis of Antalya. No one on board was injured. The flight to Turkey could be continued with a replacement aircraft.
The plane was diverted purely as a precaution; the 178 travelers and six crew members were not in danger at any time, airline Condor said on Monday when asked. The newspaper ‘Bild’ previously reported on the incident on Sunday.
Fire brigade along the runway
According to Munich Airport, the plane activated its alarm around 3:40 p.m. As a precaution, the fire brigade was stationed along the runway, an airport spokesperson said. The plane then landed normally and the passengers and crew also disembarked normally. According to Condor, everyone was able to leave for Turkey on a replacement plane shortly afterwards.
According to a Condor spokeswoman, the Airbus A320 is undergoing technical inspection in Munich. According to initial findings, the machine could probably be used again in flight operations in the short term.
