The head of Israel’s intelligence service takes responsibility for the Hamas massacre

Date:

The head of Israel’s domestic intelligence service takes responsibility for failing to prevent the Hamas attack. Research into this will be initiated in the future. But before that, the focus is on the war against Hamas.

“Unfortunately, despite a series of measures, we were unable to provide sufficient warning on Saturday that would have allowed the attack to be thwarted,” Shin Bet CEO Ronen Bar said. “As head of the organization, the responsibility lies with me.”

Israel: Hamas intelligence chief assassinated
Meanwhile, the Israeli army said it had killed the Hamas regional intelligence chief in an airstrike on Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. The attack took place in the early morning hours, an army spokesman said on Monday.

The military also posted a video of the attack on Twitter (X):

The name of the member of Gaza’s ruling Islamist Hamas was not mentioned. Israel also attacked the Gaza-Egypt border crossing.

The borders remain closed
As AFP journalists reported, the area around the border crossing was hit by an attack on Monday. Hundreds of Palestinians were waiting there to leave the closed coastal strip.

The Rafah border crossing, which was bombed three times in 24 hours by the Israeli air force early last week, remained closed on Monday. It is the only border crossing into the Gaza Strip that is not controlled by Israel. Palestinians with foreign passports have been waiting in vain for passage for days, including countless children. Long convoys of trucks with aid supplies are also being supported on the Egyptian side.

After the major attack by Hamas on October 7, the Israeli army placed the Gaza Strip under constant fire and completely closed off the densely populated coastal area. The Israeli army is also preparing a large-scale ground offensive and calling on 1.1 million residents in the north of the Gaza Strip to flee to the south. According to Palestinian information, around 2,750 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip so far.

Israel says the Hamas attack killed more than 1,400 people and kidnapped at least 199 others in the Gaza Strip.
