As with X last week, the European Commission has asked both tech companies to specify their policies to prevent the spread of fake news in the context of the Digital Services Act.
The European Commission (EC) has sent formal demands to the technology companies Meta and Tik Tok to clarify what kind of measures they have taken avoid disinformation about the war in the Middle East on their social networks. Both have a deadline until October 25.
The Digital Services Act, which has been in force since August, obliges platforms and search engines to remove illegal content and combat false information on the internet. In this context, Brussels has already sent a message a requirement similar to (formerly Twitter) last week.
The EC said in a statement that the information will be analyzed once it is received. Brussels warns that, according to the data provided, it could open a formal investigation in this regard.
