His adoptive daughter is said to have been beaten by a retired educator (64). He would also have taken the girl to an exorcist. The man denies the allegations. The trial began Friday in Eisenstadt.
A retired teacher has three children of his own. In 1998, the man and his first wife, who had already died, adopted a four-year-old girl from India.
In bad condition
“The child was from the lowest caste and was in an extremely bad physical and mental condition,” the man told the court. His former adopted daughter had taken him there with serious charges. He is said to have repeatedly beaten her as a child and tormented her with cat urine.
The accused even took the girl to an exorcist, where cold water was poured over her. “It’s not all true,” the 64-year-old said calmly and firmly when the judge reproached him.
Psychological trauma?
His lawyer, the former Ombudsman Ewald Stadler, went into detail: “The girl has been through a lot in the first four years of her life and appears to be psychologically traumatized. She has made repeated accusations in the past, some of which were investigated by youth services and others by the parquet – to no avail.”
The suspect herself also described that his adopted daughter had behavioral problems: “Until she was 11 or 12 years old, she used a diaper and even smeared the toilet door with the feces. It was very difficult. We’ve seen psychologists and doctors, tried everything.”
trial adjourned
The doctors had not found the alleged abuse, however. Stadler: “The allegations are simply completely unfounded.” The trial was adjourned pending the hearing of two other witnesses.
