“I was never a typical girl. Even in kindergarten, I preferred to play in the corner of the study and looked like a boy to the people in the village. “I wore long hair and dresses for my first communion and confirmation, but otherwise only pants,” says Julian Nitzky, 21, in a deep voice, rubbing his luscious, hairy chin. The kindergarten teacher and community worker, who lives and works in a community on the border between Burgenland and Lower Austria, is transgender. This is what people call themselves whose gender identity does not correspond to the sex registered in the birth register.
