Danger of terrorism – The former Prime Minister of Slovenia to the people: “Arm yourself!”

Date:

Slovenian opposition leader and former Prime Minister Janez Jansa caused a lot of commotion with an appeal. Given the increased threat of terrorism as a result of the war in the Middle East, the conservative politician called on the population to arm themselves.

“The fun is over. Arm yourself! Legally,” Jansa wrote on Twitter (X), referring to what he said was an expected deterioration in the security situation. He doubted whether the current government of liberal Prime Minister Robert Golob could protect Slovenia from the threat of terrorism.

The government reacted with dismay: “The calls for personal armament, even if legal, are completely irresponsible,” said a statement signed by Prime Minister Golob and the leaders of the other two coalition parties, Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon and Culture Minister Asta Vrecko. The three coalition partners condemned “scaremongering, hatred and populism” and rejected calls for rearmament.

Minister of Foreign Affairs: “Call is irresponsible”
The Foreign Minister’s response was even sharper, describing the call as “irresponsible, tasteless and even dangerous.” “I strongly condemn such provocations, which could lead to new hatred and violence in our society,” she wrote on Twitter. Meanwhile, police called on citizens to let them do their job and stressed that they will ensure the safety of citizens.
