The Basque government approves a budget project of 15,025 million euros for 2024, 5.4% more than in 2023

The Minister of Economy and Finance explained that in the current context of “global uncertainty”, the bills “aim to be the support and guarantee for the maintenance and improvement of public services”.

The Council of Government today approved the draft budget for the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) for 2024, which amounts to 15,025.4 million euros, representing an amount total budget increase of 5.4% compared to 2023, with an increase of 774.7 million euros. The bills are presented as “support and guarantee for the maintenance and improvement” of public services.

During a press conference after last Tuesday’s Council of Government, the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Basque Government, Pedro Azpiazu, explained that the last draft budget of a legislature characterized by “global uncertainties such as the pandemic, war conflicts and high inflation, which have undoubtedly shaped government spending.”

According to him, in this context of global uncertainty ‘The budget becomes the support and guarantee for the maintenance and improvement of our public serviceswith our eyes set on building a future that is committed to people, economic development, employment and caring for our planet.”

On October 27, the budget project will be registered in the Basque Parliament and the councilors will appear from November 6 to 8. After these performances, at the 9th EH I will invite Bildu, Elkarrekin Podemos, PP and Cs for the first contrast round to explore possible alliances. The expected approval date for this is December 22. “I know that in an election year it is not easy to rally support, but I am confident that we will all know how to seize this opportunity and that Euskadi can become a reflection of what politics should be,” Azpiazu said .
