The cultivation and sale of cannabis flowers flourished in Vienna and Burgenland for years before the ‘family business’ came to light due to the complaint of the 16-year-old daughter. At the Eisenstadt Regional Court, everyone accused everyone.
Drug dealers certainly look different from the 70-year-old who had a stroke 26 years ago and has only been able to get around with a stick ever since. In 2015, she was urged by her daughter to care for her cannabis plants in her apartment in Vienna. The pensioner watered well and picked dead leaves. In 2018 she provided a total of 278 pieces. She kept records of this and the income. Every gram – 4,560 in four years – was meticulously recorded. “I didn’t do anything more,” the lady said during the trial at the Eisenstadt Regional Court.
Daughter burdens mother
“Not true,” replied the daughter (39). “She was very happy with the harvest and the weighing. And she baked cookies with it.” The chairman of the jury wanted to know why her grandmother was participating. “My daughter promised me money for electricity. But I never got anything from her.” And: ‘She threatened me that otherwise my grandson would no longer be allowed to come to me.’
Mobile phones are tapped for three weeks
When the 39-year-old moved from Vienna to Burgenland, she took her plantation with her. From then on it continued with around twenty plants in the home of her ex-partner (43), who was also accused. The “grass” was sold to friends. Speed was also evicted. The second defendant also only wanted to give water. When the police finally searched the house after three weeks of telephone tapping, 51 cannabis plants were seized.
Granddaughter relieves her grandmother
The case was reported by the daughter (16) of the first defendant, who was supposed to help maintain the crops when she was still in primary school. The girl relieved her grandmother and the 43-year-old, who was said to have been “blind with love”. She took her mother seriously. “She was the brains.”
10 months in prison for the first suspect
While her ex-partner and grandmother got away with suspended prison sentences (15 and 10 months respectively), the 39-year-old will serve 10 months in prison. A further 20 months were conditionally granted. Not legally binding.
