Nehammer, Kickl – National Day started with a few whoops

Date:

Chancellor Karl Nehammer caused an “oops” on the morning of October 26. On social media he wished all citizens a happy national holiday. But he provided his text with an upside-down federal eagle. A short time later, FPÖ leader Kickl also made a mistake. He addressed the government in a video speech, albeit with a badge that strictly speaking bears the flag of Peru…

“On today’s national holiday, I would like to thank everyone who contributes to our beautiful country and makes Austria what it is: a strong, safe and livable country. Believe in Austria! Happy National Day,” the Chancellor posted on X (formerly Twitter) in the early morning hours.

There was great outrage on social media
But something went wrong while selecting the image. Because the federal eagle, the official ‘heraldic animal’ of the Republic of Austria, is looking the wrong way! The outrage among his followers was great. Nehammer was accused of ‘incompetence’, while some others described him as amateurish. Although the post (see screenshot below) was deleted shortly afterwards, the damage had already been done.

Kickl as ‘People’s Chancellor’ of Peru?
FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl targeted the government in his video message, accusing it of “incompetence”, “lack of courage” and “forgetfulness of history”. Once again he saw neutrality being trampled, found it “massively weakened” and immediately presented the “solution”: “Let us together change the wrong direction, the wrong perspective of the politics of the government, the pseudo-opposition and the federal president. ”

But many an attentive observer may have stopped at Kickl’s pin. According to the FPÖ, this is the “Fortress Austria” emblem. Others think they recognize the flag of Peru, which has exactly the same colors as Austria, but vertically.
