Winemaker in the “Krone” talk – “Victory over Red Bull is a real satisfaction”

Date:

End in the Incredible Logo Dispute! The Salzburg drinks giant took Sardinian winemaker Mattia Muggittu to court – and failed miserably. The “Krone” asked the winemaker for an interview and spoke to him about his “greatest triumph”…

“I didn’t copy anything.” Mattia Muggittu has been repeating this phrase like a prayer in recent months. Now the Sardinian winemaker has it in black and white: the logo of his winery has not been stolen from the emblem of drinks giant Red Bull. The Italian Ministry of Industry has now rejected a complaint from the Salzburg company. “A real satisfaction and a great victory. “It was a tough fight,” said an overwhelmed Muggittu in an interview with “Krone”.

A look back: At the beginning of this year, the winemaker received a letter from an Italian law firm asking him to change the logo of his winery as soon as possible. The emblem looks too much like that of Red Bull. “Ridiculous,” Muggittu initially thought. But the beverage giant did not give up and filed a lawsuit. “It was like David against Goliath,” says the proud Sardinian. The statement from the Ministry of Industry in Rome, almost a year later, is unmistakable: Muggittu can continue to use its two-ox logo – without restrictions!

Now it’s official: the logo shows oxen, not bulls
The verdict fully confirms the winemaker’s argument. The logo is therefore a tribute to the tradition of Sardinia. “Oxen still plow my fields. “Oxes and no bulls”, the Sardinian cannot resist taking a swipe at Red Bull. The circles on the emblem of his “Cantina Muggittu” were also deliberately chosen. Not far from his winery is the “Sa Perda Pinta”, a menhir that is several thousand years old. This has prehistoric hierograms – in a circular shape. “I wanted to show that,” says Muggittu. He worked on his logo for almost a year. According to the ruling, both emblems are “conceptually similar to a mild degree.” However, there is no danger of confusion. “This decision is a victory for all of Sardinia,” said Muggittu’s lawyer Mauro Intagliata.

What’s next for the winemaker? “I can now finally continue my journey in peace.” The winemaker received a lot of support in his fight against Red Bull. Orders for his red wine are now coming in from all over the world. “I was particularly pleased with the reception from Salzburg. This is where Red Bull comes from,” laughs Muggittu.
