A 70-year-old died during a hunting trip in Altenberg an der Rax in Upper Styria: the man probably fell off a path and suffered fatal head injuries. An autopsy on the body will now take place.
The 70-year-old East Styrian from the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district went on a hunting trip to an area in Altenberg with a 34-year-old hunting colleague from the Neunkirchen district (Lower Austria). On Thursday evening he first took the younger acquaintance to a higher place and then drove the car to a feeding ground for wild boars to supply him.
When the 70-year-old did not return as scheduled and could not be reached by telephone, the 34-year-old went looking for him. He eventually found Styria off the trail with a bleeding head wound. The emergency doctor could only determine that the man was dead.
Autopsy should provide clarity
The body was recovered by firefighters and mountain rescue teams. The Leoben public prosecutor has ordered an autopsy on the body to determine the exact cause of death.
