Warning for civilians – Israel’s army: “Gaza city is now a battlefield”

Date:

The Israeli army has warned Palestinian civilians that Gaza City and surrounding areas have now become a ‘battlefield’. The shelters in this zone are “not safe,” the army said on Saturday in leaflets dropped from fighter planes over the Gaza Strip.

The leaflets once again call on citizens to flee to the south “immediately”. Shortly before that, the Israeli government announced that Israel’s war with Hamas had “entered a new phase.” “Last night the ground shook in Gaza. We attacked above ground and underground,” Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said in a video message, referring to the Israeli bombing of tunnels in the Gaza Strip.

Most violent attacks in three weeks
On Saturday evening, the Israeli army carried out the most violent attacks on Palestinian territory since the war began three weeks ago. According to the army, 150 underground and military targets of the radical Islamic group Hamas have been hit. In addition, one of those primarily responsible for Hamas’s major attack on Israel was killed.

According to Palestinian information, hundreds of buildings in the north of the Gaza Strip were completely destroyed during the overnight shelling.

Russia warns of expulsion of Palestinians
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke out on Saturday. He warned of a continuation of the ground offensive and the expulsion of two million Palestinians, and in an interview with the Belarusian state agency Belta, published on Saturday by the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow, he again called for a ceasefire the fire for the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Despite its own war of aggression against Ukraine, which has been causing death and destruction in the neighboring country for more than twenty months, Russia has recently repeatedly offered to act as a mediator. The country has traditionally maintained good relations with the Arab world, including the Islamist Hamas and Israel.

Thousands dead on both sides
Hamas launched an unprecedented major attack on Israel on October 7. According to Israeli information, approximately 1,400 people were killed and 229 people were taken hostage. In response, Israel closed the Gaza Strip and launched massive airstrikes. Israel also announced a major ground offensive in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry, more than 7,700 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since the start of the war, the latest figures showed on Saturday. This information cannot be independently verified.
