The staff shortage in Styria’s hospitals should be alleviated quickly, hopes Michael Sacherer, president of the Styrian Medical Association, in the “Krone” interview. The country has put together a salary package worth 130 million euros. But is more money enough?
“Kron”: One of the largest investment packages for healthcare professions in Styria has just been approved, worth 130 million euros. Is money everything, Mr. Sacherer, or do we need to tighten more screws to get the personnel problem under control?
Michael Sacherer: The latest salary package for Kages and Med-Uni employees is a real milestone and can be expected to defuse the tense situation in Styrian hospitals. However, experience shows that it takes approximately six to twelve months before such a measure is noticeably reflected in the figures. In any case, there is great hope for rapid improvement.
