Under the slogan “Gora palestinar erresistentzia”, thousands of people have gathered in Bilbao to show solidarity with the Palestinian people and to denounce “the ethnic cleansing and genocide carried out by Israel”.
Summoned by “Palestine in Elkartasuna“, A massive demonstration has marched through the streets of Bilbao since 6 p.m. to show solidarity with the Palestinian people and denouncing the “genocide and ethnic cleansing” that Israel is committing, especially in Gaza, but also in the West Bank.
The march, called by several groups of Basques, expressed in the initiative “Palestinarekin Elkartasuna”, started from the Plaza del Sagrado Corazón behind a banner with the motto “Gora palestinar erresistentzia. Zionist genocide. Palestinerekin elkartasuna” and has toured Gran Vía amid cries of “Palestine askatu” and with posters denouncing that “Israel kills, Europe sponsors” and questioning the lack of sanctions against Israel.
Thousands of people attended the march, which started with a large Palestinian flag and an ikurriña that served as a prelude to the banner.
In statements at the start of the march said Esther Muñozof the organizing group, has emphasized the importance of ‘taking to the streets to express solidarity with the Palestinian people, in these moments when it is confirmed a qualitative and quantitative leap in Israel’s ethnic cleansing and genocide operations especially in Gaza, but without forgetting the crimes committed in the West Bank.”
He realized that “the Palestinian people have been resisting the colonization of Israel for decades” and has asserted “their right to resist, just like any oppressed people“.
The march has also criticized “the complicity and cooperation of Western governments, corporations and political parties that legitimize the State of Israel.”
In Bayonne A demonstration had also been called for 5 p.m. The protest has been banned by the prefecture, but hundreds of people gathered and took place behind a banner reading “Israel genocide, Frantzia kolabo. Palestine askatu!”, closely followed by police. The mobilization ended on Jacques Portes Square with the reading of a recorded text that could be heard over the public address system.
