Fire action on Sunday evening in the Ottakring district of Vienna: several rubbish bins placed in a building passage were on fire. The fire quickly spread to the facade of the house and smoke penetrated several apartments.
Residents noticed the fire around 1 a.m. and alerted the fire brigade. When the emergency services arrived on Landsteinergasse, the fire had already spread to the facade. Flames and hot smoke spread from both sides of the hallway.
The flames reached the level of the second floor and some windows were already cracked from the heat of the fire.
Two extinguishing lines were immediately installed, one on the street side and one in the courtyard, to prevent the fire from spreading further. At the same time, respiratory protection teams checked the stairwell and adjacent apartments. Some residents were taken outside and handed over to the Vienna Professional Rescue Service for care. One resident had mild smoke inhalation.
The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
