Last year, police in the center of Salzburg had to fight with thugs and their fireworks on Halloween night. This year we have prepared well for possible similar riots.
Since the early evening hours, the Salzburg police have been working in the city center with a large contingent. However, active intervention by officials has not yet been necessary. The situation is calm, according to eyewitnesses. So far, only a few young people have lit small New Year’s Eve firecrackers.
Personal checks were therefore carried out on the first young people. Identity cards were checked and the persons involved were checked for dangerous objects.
In the city center there are not only officers in uniform, but also in plain clothes. Exact figures are not given for tactical reasons; the special Cobra unit is also ready in case of emergency.
