A motorist in Radenthein (Spittal an der Drau district) had a lucky break on Tuesday. His vehicle was almost hit by a heavy rock. On Wednesday, eleven houses had to be evacuated due to the rubble.
The driver was driving on the B88 when a rock crashed into Kleinkirchheimer Straße, narrowly missing his car, the local fire brigade in Radenthein said.
More unstable rocks discovered
State geologists investigated the danger zone. Unfortunately, even more unstable rocks were discovered. On Wednesday, the mountain rescue services Radenthein, St. Peter ob Radenthein and Radenthein-Nockberge had to take emergency measures.
In addition to security personnel on the slope, eleven houses in the immediate area were also evacuated for safety reasons. Fortunately, the evacuation was lifted after two hours, emergency services say. A total of 70 firefighters were present on All Saints’ Day.
