Drinking and driving are getting expensive: two drivers in Tyrol are now feeling the consequences. A 46-year-old Slovakian crashed into a church wall in the Lechtal on Tuesday. An alcohol test revealed a value of more than 2.8 per mille on the handlebars. In Sölden in the Ötztal, a woman injured two cyclists under the influence of alcohol and drugs – a hand biker was even trapped.
The accident in the Lechtal happened just before 11 a.m.: the 46-year-old Slovak was driving on the Lechtalstraße near Steeg in the direction of Reutte. In the Hägerau district, he drove his car over the right edge of the road and hit the curb and wall of the local church, according to police. The extent of the man’s material damage is not yet clear. According to the police, the 46-year-old had more than 2.8 per mille alcohol in his blood. His driver’s license was taken from him on the spot and he had to pay a deposit.
Two cyclists hit by a car
About an hour and a half earlier, a devastating drinking accident had already taken place in the Ötztal. A 38-year-old resident was driving on Ötztalstraße through Sölden around 9:30 am when she first touched a guardrail and continued on without stopping. About three kilometers later she came to the left of the road and collided with an oncoming cyclist (39).
But that’s not all: the car then rolled on and trapped another 67-year-old hand biker. Both cyclists were injured and were taken to a doctor in Sölden. The driver of the accident was uninjured, alcohol and drug tests were positive, police said. The woman’s driver’s license has been seized.
