Stalemate? – Russians declare Ukraine’s counter-offensive over

Date:

In a newspaper interview last week, Ukrainian army commander Valery Zalushnyj spoke of a “stalemate” in the trench warfare against the Russian occupiers. President Volodymyr Zelensky vehemently contradicted this. The Russian governor in the Zaporizhia region has already declared the Ukrainian counter-offensive over.

Yevgeny Balitsky said on Monday: “The enemy has been stopped and his counter-offensive, about which so much fuss has been made, has been completely stopped.” Some smaller skirmishes take place near the village of Robotyne and near the village of Shcherbaky.

Saluzhnyj: “There were conflicting reports from Ukraine. While General Salushnyj spoke in an interview with The Economist about a dead end that only a “great technological leap” could lead to, his president emphasized that the Ukrainians were more cautious in deploying their soldiers due to Russian air superiority. However, the F-16 fighter jets and stronger air defenses expected next year would change the situation in favor of the Ukrainians.

Criticism of open commentary on what is happening at the front
The Ukrainian General Staff said on Sunday evening that Russian forces had carried out several failed attacks near Robotyne and Verbowe, a village a few kilometers to the east. Ukrainian forces conducted “offensive operations” toward Melitopol in the west of the Zaporizhia region and “exhausted the enemy there along the entire front line.” However, the Russian military reported that its air defense forces had repelled Ukrainian airstrikes there.

The deputy head of Zelensky’s presidential office, Ihor Zhovkva, criticized Saluzhny’s open commentary on what was happening at the front. “Instead of the army, I would comment less for the press and the public on what is happening, can happen and what variants there are,” he said on Ukrainian television. This only helps the war enemy Russia.
