In the Swiss municipality of Fläsch (canton of Graunbünden), just a few kilometers from the Austrian border, a large-scale operation by rescue workers took place in the early hours of Sunday morning. Two night-flying medical emergency helicopters had to be deployed after an accident occurred at a birthday party.
According to the cantonal police, the accident took place shortly after midnight at the old Fläscherberg cable car station, which can be rented as an event location. For fun, three guests at the birthday party hung themselves from the deflection wheel of the old cable car, which was hung on site at a height of about three meters for decoration.
Incredible recklessness
The three men set the wheel in motion, eventually causing it to come loose. A 35-year-old was buried under the deflection wheel, which weighed about 500 kilograms. Guests present were able to lift the bicycle together and save the seriously injured man. A 37-year-old was hit when his bicycle fell and was also injured.
Two emergency helicopters on site
The Rega air rescue service transferred both men in a helicopter to the Graubünden cantonal hospital in Chur. The police of the canton of Graubünden have started an investigation into the accident together with the Public Prosecution Service.
