Facebook fraudsters have stolen no less than 72,000 euros from a woman from Burgenland. During the trial at the Eisenstadt Regional Court, heavy sentences were imposed for the repeat offenders.
And then Karin Lückl’s collar burst, and not just in her robe. “Do you think we’re completely stupid?” asked the chairman of the jury court in Eisenstadt.
Facebook profile invented
The defendant, a 45-year-old Austrian, paused for a moment before continuing his tirade. Yes, he invented the Facebook account “Daniel Piozo”, a model with an accompanying profile photo, desperate for a partner.
He needed money
A woman from Burgenland was so impressed by the attractiveness of the photo that she sought correspondence. Instead of ‘Piozo’, the defendant and his German partner (34) replied and claimed to manage the luxury goods of ‘Piozo’. Your ‘friend’ needs money because he did not receive a commission after selling a home.
The Burgenland woman, apparently in love, earned a total of 65,000 euros, partly because she was put under pressure. She also handed over another 7,000 euros to the second defendant.
Beware of love fraud!
What happened to the woman from Burgenland can be called gullible or simple. The fact is that Love Scam is a very profitable way to raise money on the Internet – the defendant has nine previous convictions, five of which are relevant!
The stitch is often the same. Here it was said that “Daniel Piozo” needed money for an apartment and running costs, otherwise he would have to move to a shared apartment. The victim paid the two defendants, who claimed that they had of course passed the money on to ‘Piozo’. When ‘Piozo’ himself called the woman from Burgenland and complained about his suffering, it was of course the man who pulled the strings.
Abundant punishments
The jury was not fooled: the man received four years in prison for serious commercial fraud, his partner two. Not legally binding.
