An explosion shook the Swiss community of Schänis (canton of St. Gallen) early Monday morning. Previously unknown perpetrators had blown up an ATM at the train station and fled with their loot. They left behind a veritable field of rubble.
According to the St. Gallen cantonal police, the previously unknown perpetrators approached the ATM installed in the station building shortly before 2 a.m. and probably blew it up with explosives.
The force of the explosion tore the machine from the building and damaged parts of the station building.
Loot unknown, material damage enormous
There was material damage worth several hundreds of thousands of euros. After the explosion, the perpetrators made off with an unknown amount of money. Fortunately, there was little activity at the station and no one was injured.
Escape on e-scooters?
According to the first indications, there were probably two perpetrators who fled the crime scene on e-scooters.
