Spectacular accident Monday afternoon in Paznaun, Tyrol: At the last minute, two men (37 and 53 years old) were able to save themselves from a van in Ischgl that had skidded on a steep meadow. Without a driver, the vehicle then fell approximately 50 feet into a forest.
The 53-year-old driver and his passenger (37) did not emerge completely unscathed from the accident, which took place in the Mathon district of Ischgl. But it could have been much worse: shortly before 3pm, the two men drove into the valley in a VW van into what police said was a wet meadow with a steep temperature of 17 degrees. Suddenly the vehicle started to slide and was no longer under control.
The small truck slid straight towards the slope. The two occupants jumped out of the van at the last minute. It then fell about 15 meters deep into a forest and was left badly damaged.
Driver takes a helicopter to the hospital
After initial treatment, the injured driver was flown to Zams Hospital by emergency helicopter and the 37-year-old passenger was taken to a doctor for examination.
