Now it is official: the drowned man recovered from Lake Wolfgang is actually the Pole who has been missing since mid-August. The 24-year-old was clearly identified during an autopsy.
As reported, a private search team found a body at the bottom of Lake Wolfgang on the afternoon of November 4, 2023. Water rescue divers were then able to recover a male body. From the start it was suspected that it was the Pole, who had been missing since August 18.
Witnesses saw the accident
Around 2:35 p.m., two witnesses saw a stand-up paddler fall into the water at Lake Wolfgang and sink. Although one of the witnesses traveled with his board and arrived at the last observation point within a very short time, the accident victim could not be found. Police boats from the Salzburg State Police that happened to be training at the lake, as well as a water rescue diver involved in the training, also arrived on the scene within ten minutes, but could not find the boater either. Based on the witness statements and the stand-up paddler’s GPS tracker, the search area was narrowed and marker buoys were set.
The divers reached a depth of 80 meters, but there was no trace of the missing 24-year-old Pole. Further searches, some with sonar equipment and underwater robots, were also unsuccessful. So far, the private search team from Poland has been successful and the identity has now been confirmed by the autopsy.
