An Afghan had lent money to an acquaintance. When he couldn’t get it back, he turned on other strings. The dispute eventually ended up at the regional court in Feldkirch.
As we all know, friendship ends when it comes to money. A realization that the 25-year-old victim also had to make. And a year ago. At that time, the young woman often met the 30-year-old Afghan. You do things together and are friends. Because they know each other very well, the friend borrows 50 euros from him.
However, after months after the good friend has not received a cent back, he changes his tune. And so he threatens to send photos of the woman in lingerie to her friends on social media. Fearing the shame, the 25-year-old eventually filed a complaint.
During the trial, the suspect stated that he had no other advice on how to get his money. However, it was clear to him that his behavior was not right. Because the case also caused psychological distress to the woman, the victim’s representative initially claimed compensation of 1,000 euros. Ultimately, however, they agreed on an amount of 500 euros, which the Afghan had to pay to the injured party within fourteen days.
Because the man is blameless, has taken responsibility for the crime and it is only a misdemeanor – and not a crime – Judge Thomas Hofer gives him the opportunity for diversion. This means a fine of 480 euros and no entry on the criminal record. Closing words from Mr Rat: “If you do not pay on time, we will meet again. Then it will be clear how the case will end – namely with a criminal record.”
