So far, 101 UN staff have been killed in the war in the Middle East. This was announced on Friday by the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNWRA), Philippe Lazzarini. Never before have so many UN aid workers been killed in a conflict (see video above).
“Devastating. Within a month, more than 100 UNRWA employees were killed. Parents, teachers, nurses, doctors, support staff. UNRWA mourns, the Palestinians mourn, the Israelis mourn,” Philippe Lazzarini wrote on the X platform (formerly Twitter) on Friday ).

He again called for a humanitarian ceasefire. United Nations officials plan a moment of silence on Monday to commemorate the dead. Never before have so many UN aid workers been killed in a conflict. In 2011, 46 people were in Nigeria when a suicide bomber attacked an office in Abuja.
Attacks on hospitals
The radical Islamist Hamas militia carried out a brutal attack on civilians in Israel on October 7. Since then, the Israeli army has been taking action against Hamas in the densely populated Gaza Strip.
According to Palestinian information, several hospitals were attacked on Friday. The Israeli government has repeatedly accused the terrorist organization of using Al-Shifa Hospital as a hideout for its fighters and to coordinate their attacks, something Hamas denies.
According to the general director of hospitals in the Gaza Strip, Mohammed Zaqout, it is no longer possible to care for the wounded. “The hospitals are constantly being bombed by Israel.” Many people who sought refuge are therefore in danger.
Attack in Lebanon
According to Lebanese information, a hospital was also targeted on Friday during fighting on the Lebanon-Israel border. Local media reported that a grenade had landed near the hospital’s emergency entrance. The Israeli military says it is currently investigating the incident.
