Jealousy as motive – femicide in the Murtal: husband is now in custody

Date:

After the murder of a 57-year-old on Tuesday in the Murtal district of Upper Styria, her husband (61) has now been taken into custody. Preliminary autopsy results showed that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds and lacerations. The man had previously made a full confession. The motive for the crime was jealousy.

According to the results of the investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department, the couple got into an argument in their apartment in Pöls-Oberkurzheim on Tuesday afternoon when a relative visited them. A local witness then called 911 around 5:20 p.m. The 57-year-old was found dead in front of the apartment building after the argument apparently moved from the apartment outside in front of the apartment building.

Pre-trial detention was imposed
According to the autopsy results, which are now available, massive injuries were found to the neck and face. The husband allowed himself to be arrested by the police at the crime scene without resistance. He has now been placed in pre-trial detention.

So far this year, 25 fatal acts of violence against women have occurred in Austria, twelve of them in Styria alone. “The series of violence must finally stop!” State Councilors Doris Kampus and Simone Schmiedtbauer called out after the murder of women in the Murtal. Further emergency measures were developed during meetings of the Violence Protection Advisory Council.
