On Saturday, the Israeli army once again promised residents in the north of the hotly contested Gaza Strip two safe escape corridors to the south. A ‘tactical’ pause in fighting was also announced for the Jabalia refugee district.
“Military activities” will be suspended in the northern coastal strip district between 10am and 2pm (9am to 1pm CET) for “humanitarian purposes”, the army said on Saturday.
According to the information, residents should also use the time window to go south of the coastal area. The army therefore wants to offer a total of seven hours of safe behavior on a route that has already been used in the past.
Emergency number for Hamas attacks
“For your safety, you join the hundreds of thousands of residents who have moved south in recent days,” an army spokesman wrote in Arabic on X (formerly Twitter). People could also use a second route along the coast to escape south, the report said.
The military also asked civilians to contact them if Hamas prevented them from escaping. The army provided, among other things, a telephone number.
US: Israel agreed to a ceasefire
US National Security Council communications director John Kirby recently announced that Israel had agreed to daily four-hour humanitarian breaks in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
There have also been repeated Israeli airstrikes in the south of the Gaza Strip. According to the military, targeted attacks on Hamas leaders are only taking place in areas designated for the civilian population. The people live under precarious conditions. Aid organizations are calling it a humanitarian catastrophe.
