New details from the confession of the Serb who was arrested on the bus after the burglary of Constitutional Minister Karoline Edtstadler (ÖVP). During interrogation, the career criminal confessed to the crime. His cocaine addiction and money worries led him to this. However, Edtstadler’s choice of an apartment was apparently pure coincidence.
As was extensively reported several times, the shocked Turquoise frontwoman had to watch the burglary of her apartment in Vienna’s chic Döbling district live on her mobile phone during her summer holiday on the Côte d’Azur in August.
Neighbor alerted the police
The surveillance cameras had sent images of two masked perpetrators to the smartphone. Edtstadler alerted the police with an emergency call, almost at the same time as an alert neighbor. The duo then fled across the balcony.
Unnamed accomplice is still at large
The subsequent meticulous investigation at the crime scene with 15 secured DNA traces and investigations by the burglary group of the State Criminal Investigation Department quickly led to a hit in the criminal database. Less than three months after the coup against the ÖVP top politician, handcuffs were placed on a bus in Vienna for the Serb (49), who was wanted on an EU arrest warrant – his unnamed accomplice is still on the run. First with an e-scooter and then with public transport, the serial perpetrator, who had already been observed by the Street Crime Task Force (EGS), was apparently already on his way to the next burglary. ‘Typical’ tools were seized from him.
Postal parcel led to ministerial intrusion
During interrogation, the career criminal confessed to the crime. His cocaine addiction and money worries led him to this. But how did he get to the celebrity crime scene? The choice of EU and Constitutional Minister Karoline Edtstadler for an apartment was apparently not a secret tip from construction workers who had worked there before, but rather a very banal coincidence during a spy tour through the neighborhood: “Your name didn’t tell me anything, I address “We were only chosen because of a postal package that was left there.” As can also be seen on the surveillance images, the Serb specifically grabbed one of the cameras during the burglary to turn it off.
The convict also has a simple explanation for this: he only saw her because he was aiming at a jar with euro coins next to it. But the 49-year-old suspect remains silent about his accomplice: the code of honor of a criminal.
As a result of the coup, security measures for the apartment of the 42-year-old woman from Salzburg were tightened and the top politician’s personal protection was temporarily increased.
