Date:

They assure that the inclusion in the Foral government’s 2024 budgets of a supplement to the minimum pension to reach 1,080 euros in 14 payments is “nothing impossible or extraordinary”.

Hundreds of people demonstrated this Saturday Pamplona in defense of the minimum pension of 1080 eurosin response to a call from the Social Initiative “Now 1080 Orain”consisting of more than twenty social, feminist, pensioners, trade union, cultural and youth groups.

The demonstrators gathered in the Plaza de Baluarte and walked through the center of Pamplona to Paseo Sarasate, in front of the Monument to the Fueros, holding banners with slogans such as “1080 euros, minimum pension”, “Now, pray, 1080 euros” and “For a decent pension for everyone. General feminist strike.”

The march participants, many of whom wore green vests, chanted slogans such as “Less than 1080, that doesn’t count”, “Here, now, 1080 euros” or “Decent jobs, fair pensions”.

Upon the march’s arrival at Paseo Sarasate, a statement was read in which these groups denounced that “there are more and more sectors of society that do not receive a minimum income to live with dignity.”

In this sense, they ensure that establishment in the regional budgets for 2024 a supplement of the minimum pension to reach 1,080 euros in 14 payments is “nothing impossible or extraordinary”.

This measure, they add, “would put us on the path to updating the minimum pension with the poverty line, according to the income adequacy criteria set out in the European Social Charter.”

This is stated in the manifesto that is read out at the end of the demonstration In Navarre, almost seven in ten people who receive a pension of less than 1,080 euros are women and in this way “the gender gap in pensions is once again shown to be an indisputable truth.”

Moreover, they assure that “this struggle is related to the demand to increase the guaranteed income, aimed at guaranteeing a minimum income for families in economic difficulties.”
