In the US state of Florida, jurors have ordered the Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg to pay more than 200 million euros in damages and compensation to the Kowalski family. The reason: there were allegations that the parents had abused their seriously ill daughter.
Little Maya was only 10 years old when she was treated there for complex pain syndrome in 2016. When a child protection doctor believed that the girl had been abused by her parents, the child was not allowed to go home or to her parents for three months.
The Kowalskis’ dramatic story was reported in the 2022 Netflix documentary “Take Care of Maya.”
