A four-year-old boy was killed in a fatal accident on Sunday afternoon during a family outing in Nenzing (Bludenz district). The child fell into the Meng River while playing on the bank and was swept away by the current. The family was unable to get the boy out of the water.
He was recovered and resuscitated by rescuers after about 1.7 kilometers. However, the child died a few hours later at the Feldkirch state hospital, police informed.
Causes still unclear
The director spoke of a “tragic accident” that took place around 3.30 pm. The boy was staying with relatives on the banks of the Meng, why he fell into the river was unknown at first. A large contingent of armed forces fought for the child’s life.
After successful resuscitation, the four-year-old was flown to hospital by helicopter, but could no longer be helped.
