It was already announced in April that the House of Austrian History (hdgö) could move from the Neue Burg on Vienna’s Heldenplatz to the nearby Museumsquartier (MQ) – now it has been resolved. In total, the project is expected to cost 39.3 million euros.
Five years after its opening, there is a new perspective for the hdgö, which opened on November 10, 2018 in the Neue Burg. Specifically, the museum, which opened in 2018, will move to the MQ wing, located on Mariahilfer Straße.
From 2028, 4,100 square meters will be available for the hdgö, of which 3,000 square meters can be used as exhibition space – compared to approximately 800 square meters currently.
According to the State Secretariat, 27.7 million euros have been reserved in the budget until 2027 for the implementation of the new location, of which 10.6 million euros comes from the settlement with the heirs of Nora Stiasny, to whom the Klimt painting “Apfelbaum II ” was wrongly assigned. was refunded in 2001
