Dramatic scenes took place last Tuesday in an industrial area in neighboring Switzerland. As has only now become known, a 28-year-old from Vorarlberg seriously injured a taxi driver by stabbing him several times in the neck. He fled through three countries in the stolen taxi.
The man, who lives in Feldkirch, ordered a taxi around 8:40 p.m. and was driven via Liechtenstein to Buchs (Switzerland). At a self-service gas station in an industrial area, a disagreement arose for unknown reasons between the 46-year-old taxi driver and his passenger.
Stung several times
During the argument, the passenger stabbed his victim several times in the neck with a knife. After the seriously injured taxi driver rescued himself from the vehicle, the Feldkirch resident took the wheel and raced towards Vorarlberg.
Wild escape through three countries
During his wild escape, he caused a traffic accident in Buchs and evaded police checks in Ruggell (Liechtenstein). In Feldkirch he eventually crashed into a parked vehicle. He then left the taxi. It was not found until the next day.
The suspect was quickly found. On Thursday he was arrested by Cobra emergency services and taken to Feldkirch prison.
In hospital with life-threatening injuries
Immediately after escaping from the taxi, the victim was seen by a passing bus driver who immediately asked for help. The taxi driver was taken to St. Gallen Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Due to the suspect’s Austrian nationality, the criminal case is being conducted by the Feldkirch Public Prosecutor’s Office, in close cooperation with the St. Gallen Public Prosecutor’s Office. The criminal investigation was taken over by the Vorarlberg State Criminal Police and is being continued in cooperation with the Feldkirch police and the St. Gallen cantonal police.
