Drugs and alcohol – 17-year-old killed in car crash in Knittelfeld

A 17-year-old driver was killed in a serious traffic accident on Monday evening. Four other passengers were also injured, two of them seriously. They had all consumed alcohol and marijuana. Additionally, the driver who died in the crash was likely not wearing a seat belt.

A 17-year-old driver died in a traffic accident in Knittelfeld (Murtal district) on Monday evening. As the Styrian State Police announced on Tuesday, he left the rainy lane of the L504 shortly after 7 p.m., probably due to excessive speed. The vehicle rolled over several times. Four other occupants of the vehicle between the ages of 16 and 21 were injured, two of them seriously.

The driver was apparently not wearing a seat belt. Police interviews revealed that both the driver and passengers had consumed alcohol and marijuana before taking off. The parents of the deceased 17-year-old from the Leoben district were informed of the death of their son in the presence of the crisis intervention team; the L504 was closed to all traffic until shortly before 10 p.m.

The injured were taken to the LKH Judenburg by rescue operation. A 21-year-old and a 16-year-old from the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district were seriously injured, while a 16-year-old from the Weiz district and a 17-year-old from the Leoben district were injured at an unspecified grade.
