The series of accidents in the Lower Austrian prison system continues. Three inmates outsmarted prison guards during doctor visits.
From the sickbed to freedom! Within a few days, a total of three prisoners in Lower Austria made the local prison guard look quite old. As it became known on Wednesday, a prisoner from the Schwarzau women’s prison went into hiding the week before during a stay at the Wiener Neustadt State Hospital.
The prisoner was seriously ill
The patient was treated there for a serious illness. According to reports, the guard was therefore withdrawn. But the woman was clearly fit enough to leave prison.
Two other prisoners are on the run
Shortly afterwards, a 16-year-old Afghan ran away from the same clinic – the ‘Krone’ reported. And he also ridiculed the rule of law with photos of his escape on Instagram. The most “prominent” prisoner managed to escape to freedom on Tuesday. The Chechen had an appointment for a knee MRI and was taken from Krems-Stein prison to the nearby university hospital.
Prisoner ran from officers
However, the injury couldn’t have been that bad. In a moment of carelessness, the 35-year-old abandoned his guards and ran away as fast as a weasel. A large-scale alarm search was initially unsuccessful. It is not without reason that the man is housed in the highly secured wing of the ‘Rock’.
He is serving a several-year prison sentence for aggravated robbery and is said to have Islamic leanings. Before his captivity, he also took part in MMA fights, which does not make the quest any less dangerous.
Hospital visits as a security breach
This series once again exposes that prisoners’ visits to the doctor and hospital pose a security risk, something that the prison guards union has criticized several times in the past. The examinations and treatments not only place an additional burden on civil servants, but also on taxpayers. After all, the costs are always the GP’s rate and there is no deductible for criminal patients.
