Two men (50 and 42 years old) were seriously injured in two work accidents in Tyrol on Wednesday. The 50-year-old forestry worker was hit by a tree trunk in Ranggen (Innsbruck-Land district). In Westendorf (Kitzbühel district), a 42-year-old worker was injured in the head by a crane boom on a silo roof.
The 50-year-old tried to cut down a hanging tree in Ranggen that morning. Then it swung backwards because of the leverage. According to the police, the Austrian was able to dodge, but was then hit in the hip by the returning tree trunk. A colleague from work called 911. The 50-year-old, seriously injured, eventually had to be rescued from the impassable terrain by the rescue helicopter team with a rope.
Flew to the Innsbruck clinic
A serious accident occurred around noon on the company premises in Westendorf. A 25-year-old was trying to clear a blockage in a wood waste silo. To do this, he tried to push an eight-metre long piece of square timber through the roof opening of the silo using a truck crane boom. “After several attempts, the crane boom slid off the square timber, shot down and hit the 42-year-old in the head,” police said. The 25-year-old started the rescue chain. Emergency services treated the seriously injured man, who was then flown to the clinic in Innsbruck by rescue helicopter.
